This presentation discusses HP's approach to using warranty costs as a mechanism to systematically evaluate reliability's influence on total product cost and outlines the challenges to establishing and maintaining a global company-wide perspective and appropriate core competencies in an increasingly outsourced and commoditized electronics industry.
This includes a discussion of how HP uses warranty cost information as part of design trade-off analysis, how HP is structuring management emphasis on warranty costs over the entire product life cycle and how HP selects and balances core competencies (both HP's and vendors') around reliability engineering.
