Repairable System Modeling

Professionals in all industries and the military are faced with the problems of performing maintenance actions on, and optimizing maintenance planning for, their repairable systems. Constructing mathematical models of their repairable systems and using these models to optimize maintenance strategies require a basic understanding of several key reliability and maintainability concepts and mathematical modeling approaches. The literature on maintenance modeling and optimization is extensive and includes a wide variety of assumptions and modeling approaches. Therefore, our objective is to present the fundamental concepts and modeling approaches.

Key Words: Repairable Systems, Renewal Theory, Selective Maintenance, Continuous Time Markov Chains
