Characterizing Business Critical Computer Server Platform Availability

In order to assess the impact of unplanned server platform downtime on their business operations, information technology managers need the answer to the question: "What is my expected server platform availability?" Server platform availability is a key piece of information that solution architects need to know in order to design a solution that will meet solution uptime requirements. This presentation describes how to characterize a computer server platform availability distribution that depicts how actual availability results may differ from "average" or "steady state" availability claims and predictions. Suppliers can then evaluate whether the reliability, maintainability and high availability aspects of the computer server platform solution are adequate to meet the service level agreements required by customer applications.
