Accelerated Life Testing Methodologies to
Ensure Reliable Product Launch
Executing a robust reliability plan
was instrumental in identifying product shortcomings which prevented
a suspect product from customer use. Leveraging new industry
techniques, including Calibrated Accelerated Life Testing (supported
by General Motors' Larry Edson) and long-term life testing,
precipitated failure mechanisms unexpected by the design team. The
testing results were interwoven into the project development effort
to produce a reliable, robust product that the end customer can
confidently use.
This presentation will show case
study examples of quantitative reliability predictions based upon
accelerated testing and demonstrates that leveraging strategic,
intelligent reliability testing early in the product development
cycle will help ascertain product shortcomings. When these
shortcomings are addressed and the redesigned product is re-tested,
the confidence in the reliability of that product is very high.
