Communication is Key: Speak Their Language Using Your Data

Raw data tells the story to a select few, but the end users of the information need to know the story in a format that they can understand and apply. Accurate and understandable communication to this group is essential in order to make sound business decisions. Engineers think in terms of probabilities, slopes, characteristic life, etc. Management thinks in terms of money, return on investment and stock price. How do we make the translation?

This tutorial goes through the process of turning raw data into information that management can use to make informed and sound decisions about their products and projects. Many reliability analysis software tools are used in this process and many questions are asked along the way. "Does this make sense?" is the heart of each step that leads to answers and also to more questions. The end result is a communication tool that management uses to determine where engineering dollars should go to increase reliability and to customer loyalty.
