Software Reliability Assessment:
Achievements and Challenges
Software reliability modeling has been around for over
twenty-five years. Numerous publications, conferences and various standards have been
developed to deal with the problem of data collection, software reliability assessment
and implementation within an organization. This presentation will deal with my own
experiences within the military and the space industry in assessing the implementation
and performance of software reliability models in these environments. I will discuss
what I have learned including a tool called SMERFS^3 that was developed for software
reliability assessment and the many challenges in making software reliability an
integral part of software and system assessment.
