Collection, Analysis and Use of Fielded
Systems Reliability Information in Development of Next Generation
Products
Companies that supply complex, repairable equipment that
they service in the field require quality database management systems. These database
management systems have historically been used for managing field service engineering
resources, spare parts inventories and associated logistics. However, they also can be
a valuable source of information for R&D organizations as they develop the next generation
of products. This presentation describes the collection, analysis and use of fielded
system reliability information in the development of new products. It includes the various
stakeholders and their interests, a description of the field data collection system,
examples of various analyses, and how the information is used to improve reliability for
future products. Finally, future directions for improvements to this effort are
discussed.
