High Reliability System COTS Integration: Failure Case Studies and Risk Assessment Strategies

In the first half of this presentation, we will review examples of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) component, module, sub-assembly, material and process related failures in high reliability military grade applications. Failure modes, analysis, corrective actions and key recommendations for each item will be provided as lessons learned. The second half of this presentation will focus on analysis tools that can be used early in the product development stages to assess and mitigate risks associated with COTS technology insertion. Useful process assessment tools and methods will be discussed in some detail using product assessment examples.
