Asset Management Excellence

Asset Management has many definitions; for Meridian Energy it means "optimizing the processes, systems and practices by which a plant is both operated and maintained to maximize the life cycle benefits and deliver the greatest return to shareholders." To support this, Meridian’s Asset Management Team has developed a suite of applications and processes. From the development of an Asset Management Plan to optimized maintenance to refurbishment replacement decisions, the focus is on getting the best performance while extending the life cycle of the assets. During the financial year 2005/6 Meridian Energy and Matrikon jointly developed and implemented a Plant Asset Management (PAM) system using proprietary technology developed by Matrikon and custom asset models developed by Meridian. The PAM system that was jointly developed turns plant data into useful information and delivers this to desktops throughout the business. Key to the PAM system and a differentiator from a typical condition monitoring system is its predictive capability, non asset-specific nature, flexibility to add additional assets and open architecture that enables integration with existing legacy systems.
