Use of FMEA in Application of IEC 61508 (A Case Study)

Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) is a typical program that can be applied for railway systems. The application of IEC 61508 is a key guideline for RAMS programs in the development of railway systems in Korea. This guideline provides basic activities for achieving the system integrity, including both hardware and software. FMEA plays an important role in assessing reliability and safety of the system from the quantitative as well as qualitative viewpoint. This session presents a procedure and method that can be used for reliability and safety assessments described in IEC 61508.
