How to Find the Best Option to Improve the System Reliability and Throughput

In the process industry, it is very common that the upstream process has low reliability but the downstream process has high reliability. The plant manager has different options to improve the system reliability and maximize the plant throughput, including:

- conducting the right preventive or predictive maintenance
- adding redundancy
- using an intermediate tank

Each option requires a different budget and results in a different system reliability improvement. This presentation illustrates a systematic way to find the best option (or combination of options) to improve the system reliability and throughput.

Key Words: Reliability, Availability, Throughput, Profit, Standby Equipment, Storage Tank Size and Optimisation
