Reliability and Maintainability Symposium: ARS, Europe Europe

Track 2 Session 1
9:10 to 10:10 a.m. Wednesday March 25, 2009

Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Basics

FMEA is a tool that is commonly used to identify risk items and rank them so that unacceptable risks can be removed from the product and/or process. There are different types of FMEAs, such as Process FMEA, User FMEA, Software FMEA, System FMEA, Service FMEA, etc. The most difficult of the FMEAs is the Design FMEA, and this session is crafted to show the differences between the Design FMEA and the other types of FMEAs. This session shows how to prepare for the FMEA; who to invite; how to execute the FMEA as the facilitator; how to keep the records; how to rank and analyze the risks; and how to create and track the action items needed to remove and/or reduce the risk elements.
