Track 2 Session 5
9:10 to 10:10 a.m. Thursday March 24, 2011
Tools to Capture Customer Needs
System Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (SFMEA) is a preventive reliability method that should be implemented as early as possible in the product design cycle. The main objectives of SFMEA are to increase the function security and reliability of products, and to minimize the cost of poor quality. SFMEA is increasingly being implemented by companies worldwide. It has various approaches and varying degrees of success.
This session presents the complete, but time-consuming, systematic approach (according to the VDA 4.2 standard) and a pragmatic short-cycle approach. In the latter approach, the ranking of functions is a target and the means to trigger discussion to better understand customer needs.
