Structured Approach to Reliability Improvement Using Six Sigma

Many companies are unable to meet customer expectations of a reliable product. The impact of an unreliable product can be multifold. The worst effect is reduced customer preference due to loss of confidence in the product. These companies can follow a systematic and structured approach to improve reliability.

  • Establish and/or strengthen a reliability organization and create a sense of urgency.
  • Develop a Reliability Measurement System and identify the gap in the performance vs. customer expectations and competitors’ products.
  • Identify Six Sigma projects to eliminate or reduce the gap. Equip Six Sigma Belts with reliability measurement and improvement tools.
  • Monitor progress regularly. Recognize belts and teams and celebrate successes.
  • Evaluate the gap and improve continuously.
