Reliability Cost Elements – An Overview

While the product cost basically involves the manufacturing cost and profit elements; the operational cost also involves the maintenance costs and failure costs, which are directly related to the inherent reliability of the product. A failure occurrence triggers a set of actions not only to restore serviceability of the product but, if the failed part is repairable, also for repair and rectification. All of these actions bear an element of cost.

This presentation will elaborate upon these issues to bring out the importance of reliability in design, manufacturing and usage from the perspective of cost.

Key Words: Product Cost, Failure Cost, Cost of Reliability, Reliability Cost, Spares Cost, Defect Investigation Cost, Logistics Cost
