Assuring reliability of new products has always been a challenge to organizations. Many professionals believe that testing the products is the main strategy. This presentation will attempt to provide an integrated approach to building reliability into the new products and will cover the following subjects:

• Organizing for new product reliability and skill building
• Setting reliability goals for new products, concept of “parenting,” reliability measures for new products
• Tools to prevent failures: FMEA, P-diagram, Parameter and Tolerance Design, Tolerance Stack-up Analysis
• Reliability Testing: Testing strategy, test planning, reliability growth models (Duane and other models, accelerated life tests and sample size in reliability tests)
• Learning from the failures: Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), structured problem solving
