Charge air cooler (CAC)
duct blow-off during normal vehicle operation has resulted in customer
dissatisfaction and high warranty cost. This presentation describes a
project that was established to characterize and evaluate current and
past reliability of CAC ducts, reduce warranty cost, eliminate design
churns and develop test procedures that closely mimic real world field
reliability data. The presentation provides a brief overview of the
tools and methods used to analyze bench testing and field failures over
a five model year period. The study draws conclusions about system
design parameters, bench test procedures and design verification methods.
